Ways to Maximise Your Recovery Days

Taking a day off from work is no longer seen with prejudice. More companies are recognizing and accepting that an employee’s mental health is not only essential and significant for the employee, but also important as the employee can then produce more proactive and productive human capital whilst working.

Thus, it’s just as important and essential to ensure you take days to recover from your exercise regime. By doing this you ensure your muscle strengthen and recover, you also give a rest on your central nervous system (CNS) and allow your body the opportunity to mentally freshen up to smash those workouts and exercise activities throughout the week.

The key to avoiding exercise/mental burnout is to reset and use your time in a productive manner on those days off. Here are some tips to use these days to your absolute advantage:

Go Outside:

Spending time in nature may help in reducing anxiety and stress. It will help increase positive feelings and the solitude let your creative mind run crazy and refresh, which will ultimately let you think on your current goals whether that is personal, fitness or career and allow you to think in ways to best achieve them.

Spend time with people who value and enjoy your company:

Meeting up with people who provide value into your life is refreshing. Whether that be going out for dinner or a movie, maybe even go and have a coffee, sometimes talking to someone and spending time with people allows you to unload and catch up on the more important things in life. However, it is important to note to surround yourself with likeminded and driven people that pass on positive energy, anyone that continually passes on negative energy or has given you reasons and emotions of unhappiness isn’t worth your time and if anything will only make you feel more drained. Having a small quality of good people that mean well is more important in quantity in this aspect of one’s life, if you want to achieve your goals either in fitness, career or personal life it’s important to only have those around that add value to it.

Celebrate

It’s important to take time to reflect your accomplishments whether they be small or big over time. Look at photos, diaries or logbooks of the past few months or even years and remind yourself that life is a continual journey of consistent learning and development. Recognize the growth and the lessons both good and bad and how that can help you approach the coming weeks, months and years ahead. If there’s something that you’re not happy about, make a goal to fix it and steps in which you best see fit to help you achieve that desired result.
